People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.
She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.
Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.
character teaching their love interest to fight >>>>> flirting
actually,
character teaching their love interest how to fight = flirting
character: *comes up to their love interest who they’re teaching how to fight and gently adjusts their posture and stance, or shows them how to use a weapon by standing directly behind them and holding their hands as they guide them through it*
me:
I love Matilda because it’s a story about a child who sees injustice around her and gets mad about it and questions why things aren’t fair, and instead of the ending being that she learns how the world works and that life isn’t fair, she catapults one of the adults who abused her out of a building with her mind
Watching the mummy 1999 for shits and giggles, thought it’d be fun to bitch abt the inaccurate hieroglyphs now that I know smth abt all that. Disappointed and disgusted to find out that they hired an egyptologist consultant and the hieroglyphs are actually well done. Night ruined
Reading fiona from shrek as an allegory for being a trans guy is great like society desperately wants you to remain a pretty little princess until it becomes so internalised that you yourself believe that transitioning will turn you into this violent scary monster and once you do finally transition and actually become happy and content in who you are there’ll still be people in your life who react like you’ve murdered their daughter and turned her into an ugly, disgusting ogre and will stop at nothing to convince you to detransition again “for your own good” and if you say no they’ll take it upon themselves to try to fix you anyway because they can’t comprehend the idea of offering you a shred of bodily autonomy.
This does also mean tht Shrek is a trans man btw. To me.
this post is a day old and it’s already reached twitter like okay wow this one REALLY resonated huh 😭

How to keep fandoms alive 101
- Stop treating it as a trend
2. Reblog the posts. Not only leave a like
3. Engage with fan content as much as possible leaving nice comments
4. Don’t be shy and participate in any way you can. (Even if you don’t have any artistic ability) You can post gifs, headcanons, a comment/anecdote or even a screenshot counts
5. Focus on the things you like and ignore the things you don’t. Use block and mute functions liberally. Curate your experience and you’ll find others whose headcanons and likes overlap with yours. Engage with them and build your fandom community.
